A heat pump heats your home in winter and cools it in summer, so a problem can show up in either season. Watch for weak airflow, a system that doesn't heat on cold mornings, ice building on the outdoor unit, unusual noises or higher energy bills. We handle heat pump installation, heat pump replacement, heat pump repair and heat pump tune-ups. When we come out, we check the system, tell you what we find and go over repair and replacement options. Because a heat pump runs all year, we recommend an inspection before winter and again before summer. ## Common questions

How often should a heat pump be serviced?

Because it works in both seasons, a heat pump benefits from a tune-up twice a year. Our [maintenance plans](/services/maintenance/) include biannual tune-ups.

Why is there ice on my outdoor heat pump unit?

Some frost in cold weather is normal, but heavy ice that doesn't clear can point to a defrost problem, low refrigerant or restricted airflow. Call us and we'll inspect the unit and explain the repair.

Do you repair heat pumps as well as install them?

Yes. We install, replace, repair and tune up heat pumps, and we offer same-day service when we can.
